QR code business card
So I extrapolated the QR code elements into a business card. I haven’t much need for business cards, only once have I really gotten in trouble because I didn’t have one. I like this design so I might get it printed.

That is really nice. I don’t at all understand how it works, but it sure looks purty. BTW, your whole website rules. Really nice job.
A QR code is like a bar-code only square, and it can hold all kinds of information. If you have the right kind of phone you could scan the QR code yourself and pick up that info.
How well does this work? I’m looking at doing something similar with my own cards, but I’m concerned that if I put too much information into the code, the dots will become too small for people’s phones to actually be able to capture and decode the image. The page at http://www.qrstuff.com/qr_codes.html suggests mobile phones may have trouble with a “version 5″ QR code, which is the smallest that will hold my name, telephone number, and email address in the format I want to use; putting in my Web page URL would push me a step further, to version 6. I’ve seen examples of Japanese cards with much higher-density codes on them (for instance, http://mobile.kaywa.com/p305.html), but in Japan everybody carries ridiculously overpowered phones and I don’t know that I can expect North American phones to be similarly capable.
So… what’s been your experience with the large code on your card? Have people actually been able to scan it?
I haven’t run into anyone who has been able to scan it actually. My G1 works great fairly well, it can even capture the code off screens. Though it does fuss some times and miss the larger, denser code. Right now my guess is that very few people would even know what the heck the code is, much less what to do with it, and even fewer would have a device to read it. Though I firmly believe that in the future every phone will have this kind of capability. My card is more about riding the wave of a future trend rather than providing something functional.
Thats a great business card. With http://www.qrvcards.com it is easy to create QR codes from your contact info in vcard or mecard formt.
